YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED….

  • I live near Corsham which is in Wiltshire, on the outskirts of Bath, so i am happy to support families in BaNES, North West Wiltshire, South Gloucestershire and East Somerset. I tend to work within the Bath trust supporting births at the RUH or with our Hummingbird community team who support homebirths and births at Chippenham and Frome Birth Centres.

  • This is such a common concern. As your Doula my aim would be to in no way replace your partners role, but instead facilitate it. As a partner you may have your own previous experiences impacting this one that you could do with support for, or you may have never been at a birth before. I offer a source of reassurance, a helping hand for the logistical and practical tasks and a gentle guide to allow you to the be the most present and grounded birth partner you can be. Message me, or book a free no strings chat.

  • In our system, you currently have full autonomy over your choices in labour and birth. If you are choosing to birth at home and it hasn’t been recommended by our midwives then you can still go ahead and choose a home birth if you wish. Your team would recommend a meeting with a consultant and midwife who specialise in going through your options if you have any extenuating factors which may indicate that hospital might be a more suitable place to birth. But whether they are able to offer you care at home or not, the choice of where to give birth is absolutely still yours.

  • Yes absolutely. I am aware that my Doula fee may a significant investment for many families. I am open to payment in many different schedules, and can sometimes offer a reduced rate as well…please always ask!

  • We have a fantastic provision in the Bath area called “Hello Baby’ and this can be a great option for many families. My bespoke sessions will be tailor made for you and done in your own home where you can truly relax and also perhaps imagine your early labour or birth unfolding, so there can be huge benefit in doing these alongside, or instead of, an NHS course, or indeed NCT classes or other antenatal courses in our area.

  • So many people ask this and we often talk about it in our Homebirth whatsapp and at the Bath Home Birth meet ups. Having many plans in place can be great to put your mind at ease. I often say that a child is much less likely to be impacted by labour and birth than we think, as they don’t have the same reference points as we do as adults. What is far more likely to impact your labour is how YOU feel, you need to be able to completely switch off and enter “labour land”, and whilst for some mothers this is entirely possible with older children present, for many, having a plan for care (or many plans!) in place can be reassuring and make it easier for the Oxytocin to flow!

  • We would ether have a brief chat before the session, or I might send you a short form to fill out to work out what you would most benefit from in our time together. The headline is NURTURE. I would bring you some food, listen to you, your birth story, you postnatal journey so far, whatever you wanted to bring to the session. I could then signpost you to other local services, help with feeding, tidy your house, bring you tea and generally reassure and look after you and your family at this precious time. • For a Birth Doula package, once we have decided to work together, I would typically take payment in three instalments. One on booking, one when i go on call at around 37 weeks and one after you baby is born. I am flexible with this arrangement and we can discuss other options when you book me. Remember, this fee is for my whole antenatal and postnatal care plus being on call for 4-5 weeks so if for any reason i don’t end up being at your birth, a portion of my fee would still be payable.

  • We have an Early Mothering WhatsApp where we take bookings. Please email me if you would like to join.

I message the group on a Thursday or Friday to see who would like to come the following Monday. You can then pay via bank transfer or cash for 1 week (£8) or 4 weeks (£28)

Check out Blossom in Bath for more details.

  • Yes absolutely. I have a handful of pools that have been given to the Bath Home birth group over the years. Many have the odd puncture repair and varying amounts of equipment, but i facilitate the passing round of the pools to our local home birth community for free.

If you would like to borrow a pool then pop me an email and i can see f there is availability. The Home Birth Group WhatsApp is also a good place to source equipment and share support.
